Scholar Athletes of the Week

My68 are proud to recognize area scholar athletes!

Watch My68 each week to see which local high school students are selected for this honor. Each weekly recipient will be awarded a special plaque and recognized on television as the "Scholar Athletes of the Week".

At the end of the season, one of these scholar athletes will be awarded a $3,000 scholarship!

Your video entry must tell us in your own words why you deserve the scholarship. The following four points must be included in order for you to be considered:

• Grade Point Average / Academic Standing
• Athletic Achievement
• Community Activities
• Why you deserve the scholarship

2012 Scholar Athletes

Week 6 - McAdory @ Shelby County - Finale - February 4, 2013

	Chelsea Capleton McAdory High School Congrats to our Conlin Mezrano McAdory High School Scholar Athlete of the Week: Chelsea Capleton. She has proven that you can combine athletics and academics and thrive at both. She is currently ranked number one in her class and scored 29 on the ACT, while staying active as a Varsity Softball Player and Cheerleader. The future is bright for Chelsea Capleton!
	Josh Pennington Shelby County High School Congrats to our Conlin Mezrano Shelby County High School Scholar Athlete of the week: Josh Pennington! Josh is a valued member of both the Varsity Basketball and Baseball teams, and he hasnt neglected the classroom either, as evidenced by his membership in the National Honor Society. His future plans include attending the University of South Alabama starting in the falland later applying to dental school.

Week 5 - Hoover vs. Wenonah - Friday, February 1, 2013

	Jared Richards Hoover High School Congrats to our Conlin Mezrano Hoover Scholar Athlete of the week, Jared Richards. Hoovers Jared Richards has excelled at basketball, serving as the Varsity squads 6th man. And with his 4.05 GPA and 31 on the ACT, hes just as active and involved in the classroom. This National Honor Society Members future plans include medical school and a career as an Orthopedic Surgeon.
	Brenda Hardy Wenonah High School Congrats to our Conlin Mezrano Wenonah Scholar Athlete of the Week, Brenda Hardy.  Brenda Hardy ofWenonah High School is the Team Captain of the Volleyball squad, and shesstayed on top of her academics as well, ranking 4th in her classwith a GPA of 3.8.  She hasnt decided where to go to college yet, but herultimate goal is to become a Pediatrician.

Week 4 - Vestavia @ Mountain Brook - January 25, 2013

	Reagan Alexander Mountain Brook Congrats to Regan Alexander, the Conlin Mezrano Scholar Athlete of the Week.  Mountain Brook High Schools Reagan Alexander has excelled at both basketball and football; lettering in both. And he has a 4.1 GPA and 29 on the ACT. His future plans include attending Auburn University starting this fall.

Week 3 - Gadsden City @ Clay Chalkville - January 18, 2013

	Kahlid Cannon Gadsden City High School Congrats to our Conlin Mezrano Gadsden City Scholar Athlete of the week Kahlid Cannon! He ranks third in his class, with a 4.0 GPA and an impressive 33 on the ACT. He is a Team Captain for both the Football Team and the Scholars Bowl, while staying active in his church and community! Cannon will be attending Yale University starting this fall.
	Shannon Blanchard Clay-Chalkville High School Congrats to our Conlin Mezrano Clay-Chalkville Scholar Athlete of the week Shannon Blanchard!  She has won many athletic honors for Volleyball, including Player of the Year in 2011 and Area MVP for 2012.  And she hasn't for a moment neglected her studies; see her impressive 4.22 GPA.  Her future plans include attending the University of South Alabama.

Week 2 - Carver @ Hewitt-Trussville - January 11, 2013

	Jadarius McCray Carver High School Congrats to Jadarius McCray of Carver High School, one our Conlin Mezrano Scholar Athletes of the Week!  Jadarius is active on the football, basketball and track teams, and is in the top five percent of his graduating class.  His talents also include playing the piano, organ and drums, and singing.
	Austin Seeley Hewitt-Trussville High School Congrats to Hewitt-Trussville's Austin Seeley, a Conlin Mezrano Scholar Athlete of the Week.  Austin has proven that you can combine athletics and academics and thrive at both.  By excelling on the field, earning a 4.35 GPA in the classroom and being involved in his community, he is showing that his future is very bright indeed.

Week 1: Oneonta @ Fairview - Jan. 4, 2013

	Blake Wilson Oneonta High School Blake Wilson has been nominated as the Oneonta High School Conlin Mezrano Scholar Athlete of the Week.  Congratulations to Blake!
	Peter Kessler Fairview High School Peter Kessler has been nominated as the Fairview High School Conlin Mezrano Scholar Athlete of the Week.  Congratulations to Peter!
